Lodema Vyolet Stephens Hubbard, M.D.

Dr. Dee

Lodema Vyolet Stephens was born to Lodema Louise and Robert Stephens, and sister to Robert and Umphrey Stephens. She was known to her family as Sis, and to her friends she was Dee. During a routine doctor’s visit, her physician asked Dee if she wanted to be a nurse like her mother. She replied, “I think I’ll be a doctor.” She earned a scholarship to the University of California at Berkeley where she studied Zoology. Upon graduating with high honors, Dee was admitted to the University of California, San Francisco where she earned her Medical Degree.

After graduation from UC San Francisco, Dee participated in obstetrics and gynecology residencies at Kaiser in Oakland and Montefiore and Mount Sinai hospitals in New York. It was during this time that she met and married Leonard Hubbard. From that union a son, Leonard Kawme Imhotep (deceased) and two daughters, Lodema and Leah were born.

Dee opened her first office in Manhattan in 1977. After moving to California in 1985, Dee started a new OB/GYN practice in Santa Ana and had privileges at Western Medical, Santa Ana and Anaheim, Santa Ana Hospital, Coastal Community and Garden Grove hospitals. She was also the primary physician at Casa Guadalupe Clinic where her multilingual skills were useful in serving the Chicana/Latina communities. Over thirty years of active practice has resulted in thousands of successful deliveries on both coasts.

This is not a sad event, it is an opportunity to give thanks to God for giving us the chance to meet, know and enjoy our relationships with Dee. Let us all simply rejoice that we are blessed that she came among us.
